About Me

Joan Glass Morgan, Psy.D. is a contemporary relational psychoanalyst, short-term dynamic therapist, mindfulness-based cognitive therapist, and mindfulness-based stress reduction teacher. As an integrative psychologist, she casts a wide net, including neuroscience, secular Buddhist psychology, humanistic-existential, and compassion-based approaches in her work.
My Approach
My approach to psychotherapy is based on over thirty years of academic study, clinical training, and professional experience. Having immersed myself in the study and practice of several therapeutic models and areas of research, I’ve arrived at an integrative approach, which includes everything from cognitive behavior therapy and psychoanalysis to neuroscience and mindfulness.
What does it look like?
My immersion in diverse theoretical models opened the door to psychotherapy integration. Like a musician who has learned music theory, practiced the scales, and then feels free to bring his or her own interpretation to the music, I too draw on and move beyond basic therapy models to bring a unique approach to every person I see. This requires my careful attention to what is happening in your experience and in our interaction. My skills as a therapist are further enhanced by my own life experience, with the inevitable sorrows and joys that we all share. In addition, my personal mindfulness meditation practice allows me to bring you my full and open-hearted attention. All you have to do is find the courage to talk about your experience, and then we will work together so you can consider new ways of viewing patterns, and experiment with new ways of behaving, relating, and seeing yourself. If we both “show up” with the intention to accomplish something, we will!
