This workshop is an introduction to Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC), an empirically-supported training program based on the clinical perspective of Chris Germer and the pioneering research of Kristin Neff. MSC combines the skills of mindfulness and self-compassion to enhance our capacity for emotional wellbeing. Program activities include short talks, experiential exercises, meditation, group discussion, and home practices. MSC is an opportunity to explore how we typically respond when difficulties arise in our lives and to learn tools for becoming a warm and supportive companion to ourselves.
Through talks, meditation, experiential exercises, and group discussion, you learn how to:
- Identify the three key components of self-compassion
- Describe relevant research that supports the benefits of self-compassion
- Practice techniques to increase self-compassion in everyday life
- Use self-compassion to alleviate caregiver burnout.
By connecting with your natural capacity for kindness toward suffering, you can develop healthy, enduring patterns of relating to all of life’s circumstances.
